Intellectual disability and autism spectrum

The intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder program provides, by a referral, specialized services for adaptation or rehabilitation and social integration to those with an intellectual disability (ID) or a spectrum of autism disorder  (ASD), as well as accompanying and supportive services to the people around them and to the various integration groups.

Access to services

To access services, a health care professional must first assess your situation and refer you to the intellectual disability access, and autism spectrum disorder assessment service (AEO).

Main programs and services

Adaptation and Rehabilitation

This service offers direct involvement to the user, families and relatives with the goal to improve the person’s situation their quality of life, develop their independence and to promote their social integration.

Adaptation and rehabilitation – Community Integration

This service aims to support the development of skills and social habits with a view to greater social integration of the person in community activities and services.

Adaptation and Rehabilitation – Work Integration

Based on a comprehensive assessment of the individual’s skills and needs, this service aims to develop skills in order to integrate and maintain those in the regular workplace as much as possible.

Adaptation and Rehabilitation – Residential Integration

This service targets the adaptation and rehabilitation from alternative living environments to natural environments focused on optimal development for independence; according to the possibilities and characteristics of the types of accommodations offered such as supervised apartments, family-type resources, intermediate resources, continuous-assistance residential resources, etc.

Specialized educational assistance for families and relatives

This service aims to offer specialized support to family, relatives and those with autism spectrum disorder or an intellectual disability, in order to minimize the impact of the disability and to facilitate interactions between the person and their environment.

Specialized Support for Partners

This service offers consultation, support, awareness and training to partners by various professionals of the CIUSSS Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean.


  • Intensive behavioural intervention (TSA: 2-5 years)
  • Intensive specialized intervention for children aged 2 to 5 years and with overall developmental delay
  • Intervention for people with a serious behavioural disorder (TGC) (DI-TSA: childhood and adult)
  • Educational assistance for the acquisition of social skills (ASD: 6-17 years and adults) *
  • Counselling and support programs for the parents *
  • Prevention and intervention in situations of neglect, abuse or violence *
  • Program for the optimal development of multiple disabilities person(s) *
  • Dealing with emotions, love and sex education (EVAAS) program (DI-TSA 16 years and over)
  • Assistance and support for people involved in a judicial process *
  • Assistance program for the aging *
